How to Apply
Thank you for your interest in submitting a proposal to the Staunton Farm Foundation. The steps for applying are outlined below. It also will be helpful to read about the Foundation’s funding priorities.
The first step: Letter of Inquiry
When you would like to request a grant, please send a Letter of Inquiry of up to two pages to: Joni Schwager, Executive Director, Staunton Farm Foundation, Suite 210, 650 Smithfield Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222. Or, if you prefer to email the letter, put "Inquiry" in the subject line and attach a copy of the letter in an email to jschwager@stauntonfarm.org
Letters are accepted year-round.
In the letter:
- Describe your organization and its work in the area of behavioral health
- Summarize the problem the project will address
- Outline the project, including whom it will benefit, the design of the project, outcomes expected, and the model/practice to be used
- Specify the dollar amount requested and the time period over which your organization would spend the grant and provide a short summary of your budget (income sources and expenses) for the project.
Note: The Foundation’s staff people welcome the opportunity to discuss your ideas to understand how they may align with the Foundation’s current interests. If you would like to "talk through" an idea before writing a formal letter of inquiry, please call the Executive Director or Program Officer at 412-281-8020.
The next step: Proposal
If your application is chosen for further consideration, the staff will invite your organization to submit a Proposal. The Proposal should follow the general format provided in the Grantmakers of Western Pennsylvania Common Application Format and include the Evaluation Form.
If you are invited to submit a Proposal, the deadlines are:
| June 1 | for decision by the Trustees in the fall |
| December 1 | for decision by the Trustees the following spring |
The last step: Site visit
After receiving your Proposal, the Foundation staff will arrange with you to visit your project’s site. This will give you the chance to share your project’s specific design, goals, and operations with the Foundation, and for both organizations to exchange ideas and clarify issues. Following the site visit, the Foundation staff will present the project to the Trustees at their next meeting, and notify the applicant of the Trustees’ decision shortly thereafter.
